Drake and Northwave 2012 / 2013 Kit

Posted on: Jan 5, 2013 Listed in: Equipment by Chris Skinner

The new kit for this season arrived last week just in time to be packed up ready for the season in Andorra.

The kit is as follows: Drake Descent 157, Drake Fifty Bindings and a pair of Northwave Zero classic lace boots.

Drake Descent 157

For this season I wanted something with regular / traditional chamber and a mid – stiff flex. I’ve been playing around with various other chamber styles over the past year or so and the fact I’m going back to regular chamber speaks for itself.

Again, this is just my personal preference, but I found all the other boards I tried didn’t give me back the feedback I was after. I want a board that feels alive, snappy and versatile for the whole mountain, not something that is unresponsive and only at home in one environment. And this is what I found when trying the majority of flat / cam rock style boards, especially anything with a version of v rocker, even it only slightly.

So here’s to regular chambered boards!

DESCENT

Same construction of the Regent with its pre-detuned edge on tip and tail, but with a classic camber that gives you the necessary stability and handling at high speeds. Full control and amazing reactivity make this all mountain board perfect for mad and desperate riders not scared of dangerous and steep slopes. The secret of this board is great performance at a great price.

Northwave Zero Boots:

I went for the classic lace boots as I found in the past that speed lacing systems just bring up too many pressure points. I went down half a size on last year so I keep the nice snug fit all season long. The heel grip (540°) on these boots is immense, there’s no way my heel is moving – even more so since I fitted my custom footbeds courtesy of alphaclinic

ZERO

Only for cold-blooded park killers who ride tirelessly every day because every day is a good day to close new tricks. The TF2 liner and 540° heel hold system for heel retention give extra comfort and forgiving flex that allows you a great mobility to hit rails or boxes and at the same time provide excellent stability on jumps. The HYPERSHOCK sole offers great traction, impact absorption, and amazing board feel. The ZERO is able to combine old-school style of TRADITIONAL LACE closure with high performance of modern closure systems like Super Lace thanks to the NORTHWAVE LACE STOPPER that provides an extraordinary precise fit and support. RESPECT THE ZERO and RULE IN THE PARK!!

Drake Fifty Bindings:

A mid range flex and all round binding to compliment the boot and board set up.

FIFTY

FIFTY made the history of DRAKE; it’s always been one of the best-selling models, perfect for a wide range of riding styles. The FIFTY features integrate CONTOUR highback, SURROUND convertible toe strap, PREMIUM MFC ankle strap and DELTA LIGHT baseplate for additional comfort, control and lightness. The MACH 5 buckles also provide really easy and fast adjustment so you can face any type of terrain without complications . This binding is for real riders who love comfort and great performance at a low price, YOU GET ALL THE FLASH WITHOUT THE CASH!!!

I’m currently out in resort (Arinsal) gearing up for the season working for Snowboard Coach and will update this post later in the week with feedback on the above kit.
